Well Happy Belated New Year! We have had an adventurous start of 2012 to be sure. Sierra was very sick the first week of the year and the second week she fell down the stairs and has been on crutches ever since. Well, actually today was her last day of crutches and brace! YIPPEE It was a very trying experience for all of us. It's difficult to keep a active 10 year old down :-) But she listened to the doctors and was careful not to over do anything. So her reward is that she can continue to compete in jump rope! Ahh delayed gratification is a God thing :-)
So in two days we will have a teenager in our home! That's right Conner will be 13 - YIKES!! So many emotions but I am truly excited. This is going to be a fantastic year for him. He is still working at the church with the little kids and this summer Conner and Sean will be going on a missions trip to Salt Lake City for a week! That is very exciting, Conner has wanted to do this for a VERY LONG time.
Sean is still working for Walgreens and I am still employed with Focus on the Family - praise God for His graciousness!
All that being said. We have begun the process of becoming a Foster Family! I say Foster Family because it is going to take call of us not just Sean and I in this endeavor. We have been talking about it for a long time - but not seriously. But God has been working on our hearts. We attended a Foster/Adoption fair at our church Woodmen Valley Chapel and the next day I found myself with our family listening to what we need to do to become certified with Hope and Home!
Anyway, our journey is just beginning. We are nervous but we know that God is calling us so He is also equipping us to where this journey will lead. Please pray that we will continually seek His wisdom from those that have gone before us. Pray for the families that we can serve and protect us from the attacks that are sure to come. Buckle up....here we GO!!!!

A Reindeer Revolution
Listen now closely to the tale I will mention,
It’s about Santa, his reindeer and all of their tension.
T’was the night before Christmas the house was nestled along
the road,
Santa tried to softly land his sleigh, it was a heavy load.
But the reindeer tripped over a loose roof tile,
This sent the sleigh spinning off by a mile.
Santa yelled to his team, “Don’t worry! Stop crying!
We’ll deliver these presents by tonight keep trying!”
But the reindeer revolted kicking Santa to the curb,
They sneered, “Deliver these present in one night, how
absurd!”
Santa got out, “Okay team then go,
I’ll deliver these presents and walk in the snow.”
Prancer was stricken,
He was no chicken.
Blitzen gave a heavy sigh,
“We should help Santa he’s a nice guy.”
So they flew to Santa standing in the snow,
When he saw them his eyes twinkled and laughed “Ho-Ho-Ho.”
“I’m glad you came back this bag is quiet heavy,
I was about to put them in this truck, yes it’s a Chevy!”
You know, they DID deliver those gifts and as they sped away
They knew each family would have a great day!

The List
12 more days until Christmas!! WOW I can hardly believe it is almost here! You should see my "to do list" - it's crazy how long it is now!!!
Friday I worked all day and that evening we did our Annual "Salvation Army Bell Ringing" at my husband's Walgreen's Store. We sang Christmas carols and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and you know what!?!?!? No one seemed to be offended, they would smile and return the greeting. Even the people that were walking up frowning - as we said "Merry Christmas" it brought a smile to their face and their hearts! (you know that what is on our faces reflects what's in our heart!)
On Saturday we enjoyed a day with the family and that evening an unexpected time with some friends that will be moving away soon. They are some truly precious friends that we don't spend enough time with. They make us truly laugh, like tears running down your face snot running out your nose, side hurting kind of laughter. We went with them to a Wonderland concert at their church and then out for pie. We sat a different tables - kids at one and adults at another - so much fun!! I LOVE being old enough to sit at the "adult table". It was such a precious time. And the kids felt all grown up - until the check came and then over to our table they came - lol.
Sunday we went to church as a family. That hasn't happened in a LONG time. Since Sean works at Walgreen's they don't close for anything. But that's okay, we adjust. Then my daughter asked if we could bake cookies after church. Sure I said, even though it was NOT on my list. She invited her small group from church to bake with us. (UGH) So I left with 2 children for church on Sunday and came home with 12 (9 girls and 3 boys) Oh you should see my kitchen!! It's still not clean....but it IS on my "to do list"
But what a fabulous day we had. The kids were cracking me up! You would think with that many different personalities there would be some kind of fighting or someone feeling "left out" - NOT True, everyone had a blast! Apparently we are starting a new tradition, baking cookies at the Sargent's! Believe me I don't mind at all! But next year, I figure we should plan it for a two day sleep over kind of cookie baking :-)
By the time everyone left I was exhausted - but NOT in a bad way...more in a God why do You bless me so much? This weekend was a great reminder of what is truly important! God, friends, putting other first and expecting nothing in return. Seek His Kingdom and He will bless you. Sometimes I get too caught up with what's on my "to do list" and forget that God's List has the hearts of man. That is the only "list" I should be concerned about, the hearts of others! And when I am, I am filled with JOY!!
Merry Christmas to all!

Tacky Sweater Night
Every year at AWANA we have a night where we wear our "tackiest" Christmas sweater. It is a night filled with lots of laughs. Here is our very own Mrs. Tina showing off her festive attire.
These are our wonderful silly 5 and 6th grade girls. We have way too much fun!!!We are singing O' Christmas Tree - and YES I do wear that sweater and hat every Christmas eve.
I think Sierra wins the 'tackiest" she is wearing a "Happy Halloween" t-shirt under her Christmas sweater.

Christmas Memories
For as long as I could remember my Dad and I would go out shopping every Christmas Eve. I know some people would think that is CRAZY...but we did it anyway. We would get up early in the morning, put on our Christmas hats and away we went. We would go to breakfast, to get energy for the day - it was going to be busy you know. Then off to the malls. My Dad would leave an item or two on purpose to get on that day. Of course my older brother would be out shopping that day because he hadn't gotten around to it yet. So we actually had 2 goals. Get the stuff my Dad needed and then find my older brother and embarrass him :-) We always found the things my Dad was looking for, and on occasion we were blessed to find my brother :-)
My Dad and I would wish everyone we saw a Merry Christmas and sing them a song. We would then go and find a dress for a little girl in school and buy her a dress and take it to the shelter. What little girl wouldn't want a beautiful dress to wear on Christmas? And then we would go and get my grandmother (his mother) a Christmas Poinsettia and take it to her house.
We did this every year, some years were hard, our family suffered some losses but we went anyway, and God always showed up and made our time joyful.
Six years ago we moved away from our family. The first year we went back for Christmas. And my Dad and I went shopping. We had a great time. And YES we still wore our candy cane hats, and sang to the people we met! Since then I call him very early on Christmas Eve, I have my hat on even though I can't go shopping I wear it because it bring me so much joy. And we remember all of the fun people we met over the years and the grumpy ones too! It make my Christmas so special.
This year I received a package from my Dad. He asked my Mom to make this and I received it today. His hat....

It has been retired. Some people say that Christmas is only One day of the year. But the legacy my parents gave to their children is that Christmas is EVERYday. I will ALWAYS Believe the goodness of God and the Spirit of Christmas!!
Merry Christmas to all!!!
